Acadia National Park (Campgrounds and Food)

We just published an article about camping and eating near Acadia National Park for the Jayco Journal. Please check it out! We made some great food discoveries. As for our favorite campgrounds--no big surprises there! Where are your favorite places to camp and eat in Acadia? We can't wait to get back there.

  • Maine-ly Meat at the Atlantic Brewery - Awesome chicken wings.
Jordan Pond House - tea and popovers on the lawn.
Stay away from The Lazy Lobster in downtown Bar Harbor. Bill for two lobster rolls (tiny), cup of bisque, and small bag of chips was $38.00. I could have had a full lobster dinner for that price at several restaurants down the street.
  • We actually really liked the Woodlands as well. The two campgrounds share facilities. Oceanside has no pool, so after a hike we would bring the boys over to Woodlands for a swim. It is a nice, pretty campground. Thanks for the food info--we will try those places when we return.

    Best--Jeremy
  • We like the KOA Woodside (out back in the firld). Full hook-ups, less expensive than Oceanside, with wi-fi. May not have the views, but overall, we think it's better.

Food: Paddy's and the Black Friar in Bar Harbor, the Union River Lobster Pot in Ellsworth. We don't go in for fancy.

    Be there this weekend.

    Fred.
  • We have been twice and stayed at Hadley's Point both times. We have spent time at thunder hole and bubble rock as well as walking out on the rocks etc. I like enough but my wife is not a huge fan for whatever reason. We live on/near the coast so we can see the water any time we want., maybe that is it. The last time we were there we ate in a restaurant in Bar Harbor that used old hub caps for plates. It was pretty good as I remember. Anyway, my just the two of us need to go and spend some time there.
  • Jesse and Jake are in Coffee Hound's picture gallery-can't remember if it's on their website or Facebook page.
  • Bar Harbor KOA Oceanside for certain. Trenton Lobster Pound (at least for the guys-I'm not a lobster eater). There used to be a place called the Maine Luau that served the BEST bbq AND lobster-it's under another name now and is located on Rt. 3, left hand side, I think in Trenton. Have never found the food in Bar Harbor proper to be that great except for a relatively new place called Blaze and the Coffee Hound Coffee Bar (yes, dogs are invited)! Most have been inconsistent and when we camped at the KOA most of our dinners were at the campsite.
  • We were there in June. A 4 week trip, but only 5 days in Maine. We traveled 4600 miles thru 17 states.
