Advice on where to stay in Portland area

Hey all,
Wife, 19 month old, myself and 26 ft fiver headed to the Portland Or area next week. We will be attending the Northwest String Summit in Hornings Hideout in North Plains but then spend a few days in Portland. We have an RV pass at Hornings but looking for where to stay in and around Portland. I have read very mixed reviews about the parks right in the portland area. The only one that seems decent is the Columbia River Rv Park. I would like to hear your advice on where to stay that is with in 20 miles or so of the area, preferably East of Portland. Hookups are important at this point as we will be off the grid prior to this and need to dump and recharge.
Thanks in advance!

Our favorite campground is Ainsworth St Park in Troutdale about 30 minutes east on I 84, right in the Gorge near falls, very scenic. Has full hook-ups but they don't take reservations soo need to get thewre early in the day.

This is also where we stay.

  • Clackamette is really nice. Link
It's a little park owned by Oregon City, and it's right on the Willamette, on McLoughlin just off I-205, and twenty minutes to downtown Portland. (except at rush hour.) Twenty bucks a night! Sites have water, power, no sewer (but there's a dump). They don't take reservations, though...

Also...Clackamette's only a couple of miles from Oaks Park, a must-do destination for families. Link to Oaks Park. That's a Portland Institution (opened in 1905)- a real old-fashioned family amusement park, complete with original carousel and wood floored roller rink.

And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to go there!
  • Stub Stewart state park near Banks. There are a couple of private parks in Vancouver that would be quieter than those near the gorge. Trains run by both of the parks on the east side all hours of the day.
  • Lots of choices around Portland area. You mentioned east side primarily.
    - State parks - McIver near Estacada, Champoeg south of PDX
    - Clackamas County parks - Barton, Metzler, Clackamette is right on Willamette River in Oregon City
    - Multnomah County - Oxbow Regional Park
    - Silver Fox RV park near Estacada
    - Cascade Locks has KOA and Cascade Locks Marine Park
    - If you are open to clothing optional/nude, there are two AANR parks near Portland. Squaw Mountain is near Estacada is quiet and rustic with all the hookups. Hot tub and potluck every Saturday night. Mountaindale Sun Resort is west of Portland, but is quiet, all the hookups, plus pool, hot tub and sauna. Mountaindale is right near North Plans.
    - RV Park of Portland is just south near Tualatin.

If you can't find a spot on that list, you need to go home!!
  • Maybe you might like Milo McIver State Park?
    Have fun,
    Steve
