Alabama Hills, Lone Pine CA

Spent a couple of night here last week. Wide open dispersed camping, impressive rock formations in every direction, and good services available within 5 miles.

I did not realize until 10 minutes after I had leveled and unhitched, but I happened to camp next to at least 4 published rock climbing routes. So I sat under my awning while being entertained by folks scaling the rocks.

  • Last time we were in the vicinity there was a moderate sand storm blowing out of DV. That's when I discovered next morning that the front jacks had their own, hidden, fuse....heh
  • With fresh water and a dump close by at BLM’s Tuttle Creek, the Hills are a favorite of mine. Did you see Gunga Din, Cary Grant or Doug Fairbanks Jr.?
  • Looks like a really nice place to camp....never been there (yet).
What I noticed from you pictures is that there is no graffiti on the rocks...that's refreshing.
  • Great place! Can't beat the price. :) Been there several times. Had rock climbers by me, too, last fall. Was in the E Sierra last month, but only had time to get as far S as Bishop.
