I agree with the OP. I discovered this season that I am getting REALLY PICKY!We are in the same area of NC and I have been to the same places. We went to Boone KOA once and have not returned due to the set up of the sites. The one big gripe I have is the campgrounds appearing to not be putting ANY effort into keeping the roads and sites maintained. With all this rain we have scratched many campgrounds off our list because the gravel is most likely washed away or the sites are a muddy mess. I have a young family, so family atmosphere is what we look for most!
