That's where it get sticky. If you are at a very kid friendly place with face painting, pony rides, water parks etc. they may include/budget 2 kids per site activity fees into the base price. 2 adults 2 kids as the base price.
An adult is less likely to do face painting or kid style water parks. If they budget for 2 kids and you show up with 3 kids there is an additional fee. In this case the fee has nothing to do with spouses or adults it is based on kids. The fess are often not based on a simple head count.
Except that there are plenty who camp with no kids of just one. It all evens out in the end. I'd be all for a low base price and "pay as you go" fees. Don't use the pool? Don't pay for it. Same with the dog park, playground and showers.
That sounds nice as well. But now you need someone to police all the activities to ensure only those that paid are using them.
Of course the cost of the policing will have to be added to the base price. LOL;).
Or the CG could do without the policing and just rely on the honor system! In the end the CG set a base price based on the masses of their clientele. While this system is not foolproof the idea is to find a happy medium.
Likewise campers should patronize CG's that fit their own dynamic.
If you have kids and want the kids friendly activities go to Yogi bear. If you don't have kids Yogi should not be your first choice.
If you have kids and want lots of kid friendly activities don't search out a parks that cater to the 55 and older crowd.
Campers have to use their own judgement to find places that match their budgets and their needs.
Do you want to spend what it cost for the convenience to be right at the beach or is it a better value to stay 5 miles away and commute. That answer is different for everyone. Some would not want to be anywhere near a beach even if you paid them.
There will never be a perfect pricing strategy. CG value is in the eye of the camper. No CG can survive without profit.
