I read of one photographer who waited too long for the perfect light and got stuck out on the redrock at night. He spent a cold night on the rock. You want low angle light and early morning light is probably out of the question so you would want late afternoon light and thus the problem.
It's quite a hike. My wife would never make it so I never tried to enter the lottery.
