I beg to differ.
I’m guessing you have never been to Yellowstone. I have, and can tell you that what that guy did was both very dangerous and also risky for the geyser. Old Faithful erupts on a somewhat loose schedule. When the rangers post the expected time for the next eruption, it is plus or minus about 20 minutes. The water comes out as a powerful blast, and it is boiling hot. Sticking a hand or foot into the mouth risks breaking off rock that could fall into the geyser and screw up the oriface that controls the timing of eruptions, so not only could he have been severely injured, he could have ruined YOUR national treasure.
Some fool gets killed at Yellowstone every couple years. Sometimes it’s by walking away from the safety of a boardwalk and falling through a thin spot into boiling acid, sometimes it’s by treating a bison, bear, or moose like a house pet and getting shredded.
There are signs everywhere saying to stay on the boardwalks and stay away from the wildlife, but some people are really too stupid to be allowed to live.
The guy in the article is clearly someone who needs the close adult supervision of some time in jail for his own safety.
