Anyone with personal experience using Harvest Hosts?

Anyone with personal experience using Harvest Hosts?

How was it? How often have you used it? Anything else?

Thanks

  • We recently stayed at a harvest host in South Dakota. The winery was not too far off our planned route and we had a pleasant afternoon and quiet evening. We also stayed at a harvest host in a tourist town about 100 miles from our home. I found that when planning a trip, many HH locations are not convenient to major highways. If you don't mind diverting from your route, harvest hosts are a great and interesting alternative to a campground.
  • We have used it many, many times all over the U.S. and Canada Every time has been a great experience and the membership fee has paid for itself over and over. It is true though, you can wind up spending more than a campsite for products sold by the host. Lots of these products we would not have found otherwise. Purchasing is strictly voluntary. well worth it. Chuck
  • We have friends here that joined and they use it all the time. Granted we live in the wine country and it is a great little getaway for them.
  • NERVDA's weekly pod cast last week had the new owners. They said they were concentrating on recruiting new hosts.

We stayed at a couple of places and found it convenient. Most hosts will do same day requests. Just be aware that if you park overnight at a vineyard, you may spend more for wine than you ever would consider spending on a campsite :)
  • Harvest Hosts just sold to a new owner last month. It will be interesting to see if there are any changes. The new owner is looking to increase membership from the current 8300 to 20-30,000 within the next year and has cranked up the marketing, doubling the pace of new membership signups. That's a lot of new folks hoping for the same spaces.
  • Used it once for two nights at a small winery in northern Washington, very pleasant experience.
