Anything to see in Salt Lake City?

Head north to Brigham City area - the Promontory Point/Golden Spike exhibit is VERY well done and worth the visit. Pretty area around there, too. SLC traffic is, well, traffic... ST

I found Saltaire to be interesting. never did find the spiral jetty however. also golden spike area.
hint, if you want an adult beverage with your meal, you must ask for it, waitress can't broach the subject. :)

I may be going up from the south of Utah to the Grand Tetons in Wyoming which will place me in the vicinity of Salt Lake City.

Just wondering if its best to drive around it, or is there any sites worth seeing in the city?

The LDS temple square is well worth a visit.

If the city is not for you you may enjoy the Mountains around SLC - all the ski resorts are fun year round if you are into people things, really a beautiful area.

If not we always try to Catch Dinosaur NM and Flaming Gorge when coming up from the South, meandering in on Rt 89 into Alpine and then through Jackson.

But if SLC is on your route the Temple Square and the Choir rehersal are something you will never forget. We took the Kids one year at Christmas when skiing - then it became an annual tradition for the next 10 years, Impressive.

Temple Square is worth a visit, though how long you stay there is entirely up to you. Some people can make a day of it, we spent less than an hour walking around.

The SLC zoo is nice. My kids especially liked it. As my kids get older, we are visiting fewer zoos and aquariums.

For this or any other place in the US do a Google search for `______ tourism' and put the city, state, or area in the blank space and read what the specialists recommend.

If you are there on (I believe) Thursday nights, you can attend the Morman Tabernacle Choir rehearsal. It is a great experience, free, and open to everyone.

Glad I went to Temple Square. Well worth a day and a visit for me.

Believe it or not, Temple square in SLC is the most visited tourist attraction in Utah, attracting about the same amount of visitors each year as all five National parks in the state combined. It's beautifully lit up around Christmas. The Kennecott mine already mentioned is impressive to me in its size, and the absolutely huge machinery used. If you're traveling with kids the national history museum, aquarium, and zoo are quite good in my opinion.

Of course the traffic can be impressive in regards to how poorly so many drive. The air during the winter can be impressive in how thick and polluted it can be during temperature inversions etc... I'm not so much a city type, and find cities to not be all that great. Salt Lake also has some amazing canyons and mountain areas boarding right up to the city. Some fantastic outdoor rec to be found.

Not right in the city, but a few miles on the outskirts, the Kennecott Copper mine is worth a visit.
