Ape Cave Washington Boondock?

Are there any boondocking options near the Ape Cave in Washington's Gifford Pinchot NF? Google Earth makes a lot of the area near there look like it's under private ownership. (I can't find my Gifford Pinchot map at the moment.)

We'll be camping off of Hwy 504 the next day, but I wanted to stop there the day before so my son could see the lave tube off of Hwy 503 near Cougar.

  • Thanks TUCQUALA,

I decided to hit the Ape Cave on the way back rather than risk getting up there and having to scramble to find a spot.
  • Used to camp at Yale Park in the '80s. Dry camp in a parking lot for boat launch. Now looks like a day use and boat launch only. Don't remember any real good areas for just going into the forest to a dispersed site.

Beaver Bay Campground may be only good option. Merrill Lake is only tents.
