Are things ever going to get better?

I am already itching for the snowbird season to get here and we don't seem to be making any progress on this Covid thing. I keep hoping for some good news on the numbers, especially the area where we go, but to no avail. I know there are others who are suffering a much greater pain and I certainly understand the losses some have to bare, but when other countries are doing so much better than us, I am angry.
  • The 1918 pandemic took a couple of years to disappear. We are ONLY in the 6th month or so. And, as I have posted before, we don't have a truly effective vaccine for the virus started more than 100 years ago!
But I'm going to get my Senior Flu Shop as soon as possible anyway.

I wouldn't be too hard on the guy... after all, protest is what got this country started in the first place, no?
  • I'm hoping for 1Q 2021 for improvement. I predict that there will soon be a spike due to school openings.

I have hopes and concerns for a GD that started college today. She's almost 18, 1.5 years of credit (from Central WA) for WA State U, all on line classes. But the first time away from home. It's been hard, many activities cancelled this year, drive by High School graduation and more.

  • Currently, I am hoping things "tighten up" some. I am sick of hearing of parties with no social distancing or masks. Besides being a senior I have other "risk factors".

I don't expect that vaccines will start rolling out until 2021 and then the order will likely be

    - medical workers, even down to the cleaning crews
    - other first responders
    - teacher and school staff
    - seniors and those with "risk factors"
    - everyone else

They will be LUCKY to cover more than 50% of the population by the end of 2021.
  • Americans have always believed “things will get better.” And this isn’t America’s greatest challenge but it is our challenge today. Snowbirding can wait and missing one year isn’t a tragedy. Who are you angry with? Numbers in Los Angeles County are improving!

    CFerguson’s comments are appropriate.
  • Yes, things are getting better. Making a killed virus vaccine is relatively easy. And there are several other methods of making vaccines. ALL of which are well underway across the world. At least 2 dozen according to the medical press sites that i frequent. What takes time is the testing (to see what and the freq of side effects) and gov approval. I bet that gov approval will be pretty quick when the time comes but you just cant rushthe testing. It seems that the first batch will be released circa end of 2020 to the most needy and then 1Q 2021 for the rest of us rabble.
Thats my opinion- everyone else is free to tell me how smart i am. Or disagree, whatever, in in the grand scheme of things it hardly matters.

Now as to the inference of the politics of the matter, i am going to try very hard to not get into that.
