When out West the keyword is "altitude", not North or South. If I had limited time, I'd travel the 10 thru Las Cruces, that way you'd get to stop at Hacienda RV Resort and have some homemade choc. chip cookies, and some fabulous authentic Mexican food, and Desert Hawk refers you to). Going from the Phoenix area up to Flagstaff/Williams is a nice side trip, but you don't want to be in that altitude for long, due to the climate and driving hazards. In the phoenix area, as well as Tucson, there are many campgrounds/ RV resorts, which you may select from RVparkreviews.com according to your personal tastes, interests, and budget. Don't rule out Casa Grande, Gold Canyon, Apache Junction, or Fort Mcdowell when looking in the Phoenix area. If the weather forecast is good for a few days, just hop up to Williams to grab the train to the Grand Canyon for the day, or Flagstaff to go skiing.
We have stayed at Santa Fe Skies, a nice place with easy access, and in Albuquerque have stayed at American RV Park, also nice and convenient (w/free breakfast).
