asateague island camping ?'s

Looking recommendations for camping there. Time of year, etc. We will be in the RV. (Class C, 31 ft) and want the H loop for electric hookups. I am a mosquito magnet and I have read about the bugs etc. I guess I will bring a bucket of DEET. But any info is much appreciated!

Bug - tick warning are good info - we usually stay in Berlin and day trip to Assateague, so you best bet is the reservation route.

Bring lots of Deet - spray it everywhere and often just too many Deer Tick stories of late.

If you fail at Assateague you can always look into the Delaware Park at Indian River - they expanded and when we drove by a few weeks ago they had a number of spaces available.

    BOL,
  • We have been to Assateague several times in late April, May and early June. Never had a problem with mosquitoes, but we don't sit outside a lot. We always go to the national seashore campground and have used both the ocean and bay side loops.

You do have to watch out for ticks. Avoid walking in tall grass or through bushes adjacent to the trails and check for ticks before getting back into the RV. I walked off trail for a few minutes one time to retrieve a dropped lens cap and came back with 14 ticks on my clothing.
  • I booked about a month ago, booked 3 nights for the week of june 5. we have site H38. When I booked it was slim pickens at best.

This will be our first time there, looking forward to going! thanks for the bug alert!
