Assateague in April?

With the bugs there it all depends on which way the wind is blowing but that early in the year Yu should be ok

We're doing mid-May and hoping that will be before bug season.

Bugs there are horrible by june, going early should not be bad. I have only stayed at Maddox and while the proximity to the refuge is great, it sits very low (as does most everything there), and will be one of the worst places for mosquitos.

Only issue I see if the weather drops. Showers will be on the cool side. Pretty good wind protection from the berms that separate the beach from campsites. They only have one loop at the state park with electrical. Bring an electrical heater for nights and early morning. You fill up w/water when arriving and dump when leaving/as needed. Great place to be. Go and enjoy it... PS: Don't try and pet the horses, they like to kick & bite.

Just be prepared for changeable weather; It may be 75 one day and damp/drizzle the next; Bugs should not be a problem but take an extra blanket...

Enjoy - I was there in late Oct last year and it was great;

We were there last June, we had noticed by evening the bugs were stating to come out and they were especially bad by the bay side water/brush/trees. During the day wasn't to much of a issue. I would guess in April should be better. Were heading back again in June.

April is a good time to go.

I really I've it there, I stayed 4 days this past August on a non electric site, with no generator, just solar and 3 batteries. We all had a great time. Not too humid, very few bugs, steady gentle breeze on the camping side of the beach dune wall

Best trip we ever had to Assateague, was in February - 70's breezy - bug free,
