Associated island koa NY

Just looking for some input on this campground. I looked at rvparkreviews.com and it looked like they had an issue with the "L" sites or what they call the "sunset" side with a smell?? it looks like a nice place to spend a few days on the way to niagra falls thanks for any info you can provide
  • We were there last year in July for 4 weeks. Our first day out with the car, we hit a deer and damaged the car. People in the area were very friendly and helpful. Spent time in Watertown. I think Wednesday mornings there ia a great farmers market.
Also close enough to day trip to 1000 islands and take a boat tour of the islands and the Boldt Castle.
The campground is very large and most sites have great views of the lake. The pavilion has a live band on saturdays a lof of fun!!
    Would definitely go back again.

If you are coming from RI, there are a lot nicer spots that are much less money. If you are looking to view the River, I would suggest Jacques Cartier State Park,. Otherwise, visit one of the Finger Lakes State Parks on your way to NF. Four Mile would be my choice for NF area. No sewer but a great park.

Actually, I am figuring on staying at Four Mile SP when we get to Niagra Falls. this KOA would just be a nice place to see and take a break from driving for a few.days

We were also there about 4 yrs ago and had no issues with smell. We were in the H section , I think around H20 or so. It's labeled the leeward side on their map
  • It's been about 4 years since we were there. The location is GORGEOUS! Sites were large enough and level with full hookups.

    On the downside -
It's in the middle of nowhere. Grocery store is 20-30min away. Sackett's Harbor is 45min away.

The side near the office is down-wind of the prevailing wind direction. While we were on the island, the algae from the lake would build up on the shore in that area, begin to decompose and smell like sewerage. The CG did their best at trying to keep up with it by removing it frequently, but it was a losing battle.

The only other issue is that during certain times of year, the bugs are atrocious. We were there in late August and they were awful. Not biting bugs at all, but thousands of flying bugs that would land on everything. Dawn/Dusk was the worse, not so bad in the heat of the day. We had neighbors who left their camper doors open all the time and I cannot imagine how they dealt with it.

Lastly, the restaurant/activity building was closed while we were there. No idea if it's open now. Pool was very nice and clean.

We were there before KOA took it over, so I'm guessing there have been many changes since. My suggestion would be to get a site over toward the Marina side of the island.
