Atlanta Georgia camping

Stone Mountain. We like High Falls SP tho.

We always shoot for places North of Atlanta around lake Lanier, Dahlonega, Helen, and the high country where the NATL FOREST starts up. I589 goes up pretty far NE of Atlanta... That's where all of the good RV Places are for our style of camping...

Might be to far to commute everyday perhaps...

Your two best options are Stone Mountain Park and Twin Lakes RV Park. You may also consider the Corps of Engineers parks in Buford. Also consider Fort Yargo State Park. Nothing is very close to the downtown and Atlanta's world class traffic, especially during rush hours that seem to last all day, makes commuting a nightmare.

What part of Atlanta are your meetings? That will determine your best choices.

I have a meeting at the Hyatt Regency near Peachtree Street.

Hyatt Regency is downtown. Stone Mountain Park, Twin Lakes RV Park or Fort Yargo State Park are your best choices. Personally, I would choose Twin Lakes and drive to Roswell park and ride and take the bus to the train station, then the train into Atlanta. MARTA is the public transportation system in Atlanta- google it for their website.
Plan on two hours to get to your destination.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I decided to go with Stone mountain. I will have my toddler with me, and it looked like it had lots to offer.

High Falls State park is south of Atlanta a few miles off I-75. Stay at the River Campground. Sites are large,many pull throughs. Water and electric,nice bath houses and laundry.

I think that is an excellent decision. We have stayed there many times. Once we had an extra day and decided to buy an all inclusive ticket to the "attractions" within the park. We had a great time, even though we were sharing those attractions with many school groups from Georgia. Made it more fun.

Stone mountain is pretty sweet.... Make sure to take the tram up to the top. It's like walking around on another planet.

Take LOTS of leveling blocks and/or wood as the sites at Stone Mtn are famous for being horribly out of level.
