Effective 4/30/2016, the wife retires and we begin our extensive long timing episode. We will be staying in our 2004 Newmar 40ft MH at one of the yet to be decided 55+ parks in the RGV from Nov(2016)-Mid March(2017)and would like some input on possible electricity costs for that time. What have those that do/or have done this found to be the general monthly cost for electricity in this time frame. We have heat pumps, and a lp furnace on our rv but will mostly lean towards the heat pumps overall. From reading previous info from other forums, I'm thinking in the $100-$150 range per month.:h

Since it is a 50 amp service the most you could possibly use is 12 x 12KWH per day = 144 KWH x 0.12 cents = $14.40 per day.

Depends on how much you pay per KWH. We've found a nice park that only charges .08 per. We run about $35-50 depending on the temps. This winter has been very nice, so we're in the low range. Also keep an eye on the monthly base price. Here there is none, but some parks like to add a "meter fee" or some other such nonsense.

We have a park model that is heated electrically. We have an electric clothes dryer, which my wife uses once a day. This winter has been very nice temp wise in the RGV and we have used the air conditioner quite often in the afternoon. Our electric bill has averaged $45.00/mo for January and February and since I own my lot I pay $9.00/mo meter fee. Most of the RV owners are paying less than $30.00 per month for electric. Plenty of places to get propane for less than $20.00.

I spend my winters in the RGV and my electrical bill runs apx $50 - $60 per month thru the winter. Plus a 30lb tank of propane filled offsite for $22.00. I supplement my furnace with a 1500 watt energy efficient electrical heater. The power in this park runs $.12 per kilowatt hour and the cost propane versus electric heat is virtually the same.

I workamp and just read the meters for the park and electrical usage for RV's was apx 550 KW hrs. Some were higher and the park models were APX 100 KW less.

Like fuel mileage, people can report anything they like. Using some propane and some electric heat, I spend about $100/month for electric and $40/month for propane through the winter. Here in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas in a park that charges $0.15/kwh.

Depends on how much is charged per kWh and how much you run electric heat or AC (which depends on how hot or cold it may be where you stay).

We just spent a month on the Gulf coast in the Florida panhandle (near Carrabelle) and electricity cost us about $60 for the month at $0.14 per kWh. We ran an electric resistance heater a moderate amount. We checked out some other parks nearby and the rates were $0.11 per kWh at one and a flat $50 per month at another.

Surprisingly I've read they are about 75-80%. We all know that is a joke who actually live in an RV for any amount of time. I think your 40% is more accurate when it is piped thru the cheap flexible duct work in the unheated area of the RV. The heated basement sales pitch is really just a highly inefficient duct system.

When it gets cold for any length of time I bypass the duct work and just send the hot air directly into the rig. You would be amazed at how well that works. Since it never gets to freezing temps who cares about the basement.

Could be. But when I plugged my numbers into the calculator and used 40 percent efficiency for RV furnace, it said propane was 50 percent more expensive. I don't know if that's right, but that's what it said.

It's $27 for a 30lb cylinder in our park in the RGV. Discovered a filling station a few miles away that does them for $16. I wouldn't make a special trip, but if I'm headed that way, of course...

That's what I'm getting at. At $16 for a fill (7.2 gallons), that would be about $2.22/gallon. I'm pretty sure that would beat using electric heat.
