Awesome Season Opener

For the third season in a row we opened up our camping season at the Philadelphia/West Chester KOA and had a lovely weekend. We had a great time camping with our new six week old baby boy Wesley, who slept straight through his first night of camping! I was able to sneak away for a while and do some canoeing on the Brandywine River and we had another great trip to Longwood Gardens. We are putting up some new pictures and posts on our family camping blog so please take a look!

Wondering if anyone else had a great season opening camping trip and if so, at what campground?

Best--Jeremy

  • Clayton, at the Bar Harbor KOA has the freshest and best lobster I have ever had. His nephews are lobstermen and he gets them fresh off the boat every day. Clayton also steams his lobsters and doesn't boil them like most other places. We went to Trenton Bridge and ordered lobster stew and I have had lobster bisque with more meat in it.

There is a guy who sells lobster dinners right at the Bar Harbor KOA. Great quality and great price--and you can eat it right at your campsite with a water view! Has anyone else ever eaten there? Been dreaming of a good lobster roll lately!

We tried the lobster roll - IMHO you'd do much better to go back over the bridge to the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound and get a lobster or crab sandwich. Price and taste usually are better. They make a sandwich instead of a roll because "That's how Mother used to do it". Great shore dinners as well without the mess of cleaning up at the campsite.
We'll be at the KOA the end of September for our 7th time. Can't wait!
  • We stayed at the "Wilderness Road Campground" at Cumberland Gap National Park. The camp sites were wooded with decent space between them.

Did you like that KOA? We love the Bar Harbor KOA but have not been to that one? Is that a nice campground for little kids?

We had a great time in Gardiner. BTW it's really Richmond.... I think it would be good with kids. They have a little putt putt and disc golf. Plus river access. The owner Henry is super nice.

We were going to go this weekend but the forecast is pretty nasty.
  • I am right up the road from the Bar Harbor KOA - and I'm from NJ - small world. We are spending the season in BAr Harbor, I know, it's a tough assignment, but we'll tough it out - lots of lobster will make it a little easier. :) Happy camping

  • We went two weeks ago at the KOA in Gardiner/Augusta Maine. Had a great time, headed back this weekend in the rain.
