Baltimore Riots- angry and grateful

So we drove 350 miles to see the White Sox for the first time in our lives.

They were to play the Baltimore Orioles tonight.
There was trouble in the city Saturday night but calm was restored Sunday.

The campground attendant told us we could easily get to the ballpark from Cherry Hill. She thought we meant the ball field for the Washington Nationals which IS easy to get to from Cherry Hill campground.

Not so easy but possible is to get from Metro bus, to metro, to light rail to Camden Yards. They thought 1 hour would do it.
We thought 3 hours was safer. 1 1/2 hours into delayed metro rails, we skipped to a taxi and $65 later, we jumped out of the taxi, shut the door and he screeched off.

10 seconds later, an Oriole fan walked up and said, "they just cancelled the game 10 minutes ago"!. Sure enough, a small group of police in full battle gear was at the front.

We were a few blocks from the rioting. We began asking people on the street how to get out of there. Turns out that every taxi and Metro driver had already bugged out. We were stranded out on the street with very few walking and NO taxi in site.

We went to a Hilton thinking a taxi would show up and thankfully an employee there finally got us a taxi ride. Just $140 later, we were dropped off at our campsite.

I realize we have problems. I think I see both sides of this issue.
I don't understand after all that has happened in the past months that no one in Baltimore knows how to handle a crisis.

I just read that a credible source announced a riot on the internet hours before the game and just after the funeral. Either they should have had that area secured or cancelled the darn thing before people started out.

What a wasted trip. Vacation time is few and far between. This really chaps my behind. 5 vacation days wasted for this.

(and we have tickets for tomorrow night just to add insult to injury)

I will never come back to this place and if by some miracle or hostage situation would change it, I will come alone. Wife is beyond angry.

  • All said and done you were still camping, good enough for me! Just glad y'all found a way back to the cg. Baltimore is very nice inside the city but can be ugly outside that and around that stadium at night. We camped many times at a KOA just 15 min from the stadium several times when my daughter played volleyball at the convention center just around the corner from the stadium. Give it another shot and stay at the KOA.....

As far as the riot, I'm with you.... Get a grip on it, the so-called protest should have been stopped the second it got ugly!!! Had enough of all this discrimination attitude toward authority, I know not all police do it the right way but when they point a gun or tell you to stop...... LISTEN !!!! I only heard one of my employees talk a little about the Balt issue and sorry it screwed up your trip!
  • Not trying to diminish the issue. I get it. I really do this ins't the forum to start a political debate no matter how much you hate to bring it up.

My frustration is about how it is being handled on both ends. Neither side is helping.

Baltimore area will NEVER see my money again.
  • Well, you can come here to Chicago to see the Sox. No riots here (yet) Sorry to hear of your wasted vacation!
  • I am sorry , buy I have to say this.....

There was a young man killed by police... A job I would never want. , especially now that every action is under scrutinity ,,
Many business are now ruined , and many police injured..
But your out a vacation day.....
This country is getting more and more divided , and it's getting sickening ....

PS... Glad you got out safe!!! Bad things could have happened...

Great response K Charles. That is funny. Not yet but sometime, at some point, I might laugh. :)
