Bar Harbor Maine

Can't decide what CG to stay at in Bar Harbor. Will be there last week of August and First week of September.

Would like to stay on or at least close by Mount Desert Island.

Any experienced suggestions.
  • Stayed at Hadley's Point when we went a few years ago and were more than satisfied. The location was perfect for getting around, Bar Harbor Campground is a little closer to Bar Harbor but not by much.
  • Stayed at Smuggler's Den in Southwest Harbor several times. Plenty of nice sites available, and family owned.

Ask for Rain, she is great.

Toolguy5, what kind of campground do you want? Full hookups or none?

We love Blackwoods - been there a few times over the last 10 years. Tight maneuvering in the campground for bigger rigs, but sites are pretty roomy once you get setup. No hookups, but water is available to fill your water tank.

    Full hook ups
  • We were at Mount Desert Narrows Camping Resort about 12 yrs ago. Just inside the island, memory serves place was very clean & maintained. I guess the campground is now corporate owned.

By a pie from the pie lady if she still make visits!

Yes the pies are still available according to the web page.
  • We stayed at Forest Ridge Campground in Ellsworth - large full hookup sites and short drive to Bar Harbor.

The owners are locals and will give you great info on all the local attractions in addition to Bar Harbor, including back road short cuts!
  • We have stayed at Hadley's Point for the last 10 yrs. or so. They have a full hookup area, both back-in and pull through. A young couple took over management/ownership a few years ago, and put in cabins. Very relaxed, family oriented campground. Not on the water, but about 1/2 mile to a very nice beach and boat launch area.
