I also can run on one battery or all batteries by switching in and out each battery as required. This allows me to charge one battery by itself and run off the others at the same time...

You sound like you used to be a cruising boater. I had a system like that. So sensitive it would respond to the volume of the stereo.
To the OP, get in the habit of turning the fridge, water heater & microwave circuit breakers off BEFORE turning the inverter on. Surprising how much a fridge takes on AC & how little on propane.
