Has anyone been here recently? I heard it was burned a few years ago has it recovered yet?

If you stay in Gulf Shores, Alabama you can take your car on the short ferry across the bay - a unique and pleasant way to get to the Gardens. By the way, the Gardens are awesome on a night around Christmas - nice decorations.
