Just wondering were some of the best Northern long term campgrounds are?
We are considering staying in FL during the winter and someplace during the summer.
Private CGs will let you stay as long as you want. The state and Federal ones will limit your stay. For nice warm days and cool nights and no need for A/C I would head to places like Maine or NH or even the Adirondacks of NY. The weather is great for being outdoors in these states over the summer. I spent a summer in the Cooperstown area of NY and the weather was great. It's not the most exciting place in the world for those looking for nightlife, but there were some nice places to eat, beautiful scenery, museums, friendly people etc. Prices at CGs there are average as long as you don't want to be right near the town. - The_Painting_TeExplorerGive Normandy Farms in Foxboro Mass. a look. Not cheap, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better one. Lots of activities and close enough to Boston, Plymouth, Old Sturbridge Village, Concord/Lexington, and Cape Cod for day trips. Camp on!
- BJeanExplorerJust want to thank you all for your answers. This will give us somethings to look at for next year.
- Parrothead_MikeExplorerIf you don't want to be too far from Illinois you might try Spaulding Lake Campground near Niles, MI. It's well rated on RV Park Reviews and the monthly price is very good. The location is great for visiting Lake Michigan, wineries in SW Michigan, summertime fruit & vegetable availability, casino if you're into that, and much more.

Another possibility in SW Michigan would be Shamrock Park in Berrien Springs, MI. Much the same area amenities as above and a city owned park with excellent monthly rates.

If you want to go further north you might try this one. It has great monthly rates and is located between Manistee, MI and Traverse City, MI.

Found a place northeast of Traverse City which was well rated, but I can't bring up their website. Phone number is available though on the RV Park Review website along with ratings and comments. Nice area too and on a lake. Also, near Lake Michigan.

Hope this helps. - MaverickBBDExplorerFor years I took great pride in boosting about our summer location. I learned what being discovered can do. Now I will say only it is on the Washington state coast. North of Astoria, Or. and south of the Olympic National Park. Oh and it is about one hundred yard walk through the dunes, across the beach, to the water's edge.
- CincyGusExplorer IIYou also can just find the higher elevations to reduce the temps in the summer. Mountains are nice in the summer and will limit your ac needs.
- ArcticDodgeExplorerI'm very biased towards the NW for its spectacular summer climate. To many areas in the NW to even ponder picking any one specific place. I'd almost turn your equation around...... A NW summer might be considered "winter" given the typical warm and balmy FL winter conditions. The NW summer (excluding western WA) is usually warm to hot in the day and cool to chilly in the evenings with little to no humidity. Granted, conditions vary depending on locations and elevations. Again, just my very biased opinion that many parts of the NW offer up a great summer option over the buggy and muggy midwest or northeast.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIINorthern or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan would be a good choice. It's a beautiful area with lots to do.
- Bill___KateExplorerGive us some more information on what you like to do. Lot's of organized activities? Kids around or not? Hiking? Fishing? Beach? Swimming? Mountains? Lake? Resturants? Shopping? City visits? Gambling?
There are lots of choices - for instance here in Cape May County, NJ there are dozens of campgrounds of all shapes and sizes, most of which offer seasonal rentals.
