Best place to Fish...RV? Western US

We just found out we will have a week to take our RV out in early August, my wife and I would like to find a good place to fish. We are in the SJ area of northern Ca,could travel anywhere west of the rockies, most likely. Favorite RV/fishing areas?
  • Mammoth Lakes area, anywhere from Bridgeport south to Bishop.
  • Flyfishing? Boondocking?

My fav place to hide is Lassen National Park at Manzanita campground. Float tube the lake. You have Hat creek and the Pit River close by as well.

I have more if you flyfish.

  • If you like trout fishing, the whole Mammoth/June area is great, with lots of camping available, from RV parks to national forest campgrounds to boondocking. Plus, since it is at high altitude, it tends to be relatively cool in early August.

And it is only six hours away from home!!
  • "Camping at GooseLake State Park is just a short drive to the lake."

Lovely area, Donn. Think about staying for a night or two at Junipers Reservior RV Park east of Lakeview, OR, too.
  • if you have a boat, Henry's Lake,Idaho is rated one of the best...for hybred trout.
In Alpine, WY, you can fish off the bank of Grey's River and it is also rated good.
  • We fish Timothy Lake or Trillium lake at Mt Hood Oresgon area. Good fishing and great view of Mt Hood.
  • Just south of the OR/CA border there is a smaller lake that has had plenty of fish. Camping at GooseLake State Park is just a short drive to the lake. If your into rocks, there is a large rock shop just up the road at New Pine Creek. About 15 miles south there is a fun Friday nite BBQ. You can also collect free Oregon Sun stones up close to Heart Mountain.
