Best place to stay near Mount Rushmore
Planning a trip after the 4th of July to Mount Rushmore. What is your favorite place to stay, and what should we do in and around the Mount Rushmore area?

- Rafter Bar J, spread out sites. Be sure to see Bear Country! There is also a great Chuckwagon Dinner place just down the road from Bear Country towards Rapid City
- Another vote for Rafter J here. Also the island loop.
- If you will have kids with you then KOA is the place .
The kids may not let you go other places . LOL
KOA is very close to Mt Rushmore .
Make reservations well in advance .
Ray - We enjoyed Custer's Gultch.
- KOA. Very nice and very convenient. I don't even like kids but that has never been and issue here.
- We stayed at Ft. Welikit, https://www.blackhillsrv.com/ which is out side of Custer park but in the city of Custer. Its close to all the things to do. I am not a fan of Rafter Bar J but then that's just me

X2 . We stayed there in 2017 while we visited Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument ( not worth the money) and Deadwood. There is a great place for breakfast across the street called 7th Cavalry Cafe. They had the best pancakes ever.- We really liked Horse Thief Campground on Needles highway. Great views and perfectly located.

rode our bikes there. - Ft Welikit was great for us.
