Big Horn Mountains (Sheridan/Buffalo WY)

Thanks everyone! We'd be coming from Denver area so we would be coming up I-25. Some nice ideas here, I'm tempted to pack a tent and just go at it alone here soon :) As mentioned steep grades don't bother us, but roads that are too windey do. So perhaps 14a isn't the best bet while towing.

Just a couple of miles from Burgess Junction is a really nice place to camp at coordinates 44°48'25.6"N 107°33'17.5"W We have stayed at this location several times. In the middle of the night we have seen wolves, muleys, elk, and moose. We rarely have any neighbors in the area.

I've stayed at both Bald Mountain and Sitting Bull in summer and got the last site in both instances. Very popular! I also drove my Tiger down 14A and the scenery was truly awe-inspiring. No, I would not recommend it for most RVs as it's 10% grade and hairpin curves. But if you get a chance to drive it in a toad or TV, it's worth the trip. There are viewpoints along the way.

I would not take our rig up or down 14A. It's just too hard on brakes and transmission. But 14 is doable.
For views, the campground Bald Mountain offers more of that.

The Medicine Wheel access road is only about 1/2 mile away from Bald Mountain and the 3 mile round trip hike at elevation from the parking area to the Wheel was well worth the effort. Note: The steep descent on 14A to Lovell begins west of Bald Mountain, so no issue with the 10% grades.

Lots of boondocking locations off routes 14 and 14A. Check Google Earth.

The Medicine Wheel access road is only about 1/2 mile away from Bald Mountain and the 3 mile round trip hike at elevation from the parking area to the Wheel was well worth the effort.
