- BobRExplorerIt is a very nice state park and offers swimming, canoeing and tubing. Outfitters are close by for canoes. As far as the campground, I prefer TITI and would suggest sites 25 or 26. The other camping circle is Magnolia which has a playground in the center and attracts younger families. Make sure you are well provisioned before going there as shopping choices nearby are limited.
- monkey44Nomad IIWE stopped there a few days ago for an overnight and it was full - with NO overflow. She said it happens often, especially weekends with the colleges so close. And, this week was 'break week' on top of that.
- littlemoExplorerWow! Just browsing and found this post by accident. I have been looking for place near Pensacola to spend a few days before beach camping the following week. This place looks perfect. Thanks for sharing!
- kknowltonExplorer IIVery nice indeed. Sites are level and some are very private. FHUs plus a nice bathhouse, and most sites are quite shady. Here was our site:
It was HUGE. (Take note: this was a 34-foot TT.) - WindInTheFaceExplorerWe were in site 18, and although the campground map doesn't really show it very well, the site backs up to a Campground Host. Much too close so would not choose that one again.
Otherwise, the sites around the outside of the circle are very nice. All seemed easy to get into. The river is a short walk from the other loop with a great sandy beach.
We brought our own canoe and launched from the road next to the campground, went upstream for an hour or more, and then back down. Lots of sandbars to pull out on and enjoy the beauty.
The Blackwater Heritage Trail is also nearby which we biked one morning. We certainly enjoyed our stay at this great little park. - Pine_BarrenExplorerThanks for the replies the blogs and photos all look like a nice campground I'll defintly have to check it out.
- padredwNomadWe have never stayed in the campground but on two different trips while we were staying at Fort Pickens in the National Seashore we went out to Blackwater State Park to take float trips down the Blackwater River. You can rent canoes or kayaks right at the park entrance and they will take you to put in point and pick up the canoes where you have parked your vehicle. It would be even more convenient if you were staying in the park.
- Gunship_GuyExplorerWe have stayed there several times. Great little campground. Perfect location if you're into kayaking.
- accsysExplorerWe were also there last April and you may want to see my blog posting for that stop. We stayed on site 26 and I post a couple of pictures of the site and a short review if you are interested.
We also stayed there in April if 2011 and that posting is here when we stayed in site 5 near the restroom. - Pine_BarrenExplorerMainly how is the campground is it shady, how are the sites easy to get and nice and level? Are the sites kind of private or is it a open place. I live north of Pensacola and go to Big Laggon and Rocky Bayou they are both nice but have never been to this park. I have stayed at Bear lake and Krul park in Munson fla which I part of Blackwater but never here. Just wondering how the overall campground is and how close to the river is the campground. Thanks for any info. The wife and I are thinking about riding over there maybe next weekend to check it out for our selves.
