Keep in mind we are easterners... We're new to BLM camping, currently on our 1st trip west where they have been an option. In our very limited experience BLM Campgrounds are great, we've stayed at a couple, for $5-20 you get a well spaced maintained CG with clean pit toilets in quiet surroundings. While not being what I'd consider dispersed or boondocking (Ponderosa Grove and Horsethief in UT), neither was Salida East.
The early week day we pulled in to Salida East in late Sept the impression we got was it had more then it's fair share of what looked like long term campers if the weed growth around them was any indication. Free, very easy access, waterfront camping, in a very popular area, may well benefit from some regulation. Of course it could also open a can of worms like the Federal parks we stayed in that are now run by commercial outfits.
Can anyone clarify the "conflicts" and "improper use" the BLM is looking at reducing?
Any locals to Salida here that can shed their opinions on the issue?
