Apparently you have not been paying attention to national politics during the past couple of years. There is a large movement to transfer federal lands to the states. Proponents of the transfer argue the same thing that you just did..."transferring from one agency to another does not privatize anything". They want you to believe that so you won't object.
The truth is most states can't afford to management millions of acres. They will need to: 1) start charging lots of fees; 2) dramatically increase mineral extraction; or 3) sell off some of the land. All three of these are bad for RVers and other recreationists.
Again...this boondocking area in Colorado is a small example of what could happen, but it represents the camel's nose under the tent. Let's stop it now.
