Bluewater Lake SP, NM

We're contemplating using this CG as a centralized base to explore the area (Chaco Culture, El Morro, El Malpais, etc). Seems like most of the sites are first come, first served. In mid-June, does this CG tend to fill every night? I'm thinking of arriving on a Thursday and staying through the weekend.

Any other insights on this CG?

  • Sounds like mixed reviews, sort of like I found on RVparkreview. Then I read the bathrooms are locked at 9 pm and opened again at 7 am! Doesn't work for my bladder!

The RV park in Gallup and the Casino don't work for us, as we are in a PUP and parking so close to others is conducive to a quiet night of sleep.

    I think we'll investigate the NPS CG's.

    Thanks to those who responded.
  • We spent several days at Bluewater SP a few years ago and enjoyed it. We were there in November and the park was pretty much empty. There was one ranger assigned who was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the hike down into the canyon. Here are some pix and comments.

    Enjoy your visit!

  • Nearly 10 years after our experience at this park we are still shaking our heads in amazement. We went in June on our way to CA and I was told that it was so popular that we would have to have reservations. I made them, at least six weeks in advance. The afternoon that we arrived there was nobody there. All but three campsites were empty and no staff anywhere. Our designated site had a broken electrical pole so we chose another one. There had been a fish kill on the very low lake and the place smelled to high heaven. We spent the night and moved on the next day. I'm sure this was a rare situation (at least I hope it was) but we haven't been willing to try it again. Good luck. lizzie
