Well, we pulled the trigger today. Made reservations at Bluewater Key for 1st week of June, lot #63. Seems to be a gathering or event scheduled there shortly after we arrive since most lots we requested are reserved beginning June 5. We are looking forward to our stay and if we can might stay longer.
Route planner calls for taking Florida's Turnpike. I have never taken a turnpike in the M/H and try to avoid them whenever possible. Road atlas shows other roads available but they usually add extra travel time. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Traveling from Texas.
We go to the keys several times a year and maybe have taken the turnpike 2-3 times over the years. Coming from TX, I assume you are going on I10 to similar road(s) . If you take I75 south from I10, just go until you get to exit 101, Naples. Head west on Collier Blvd ( CR 951) for about 7 miles, turn south onto US 41 which will take you across the Everglades. After about 90 miles you will get to Dade Corners ( good place to fuel up at the Pilot station) , turn right (south) on SR 997 and follow it to the very end ( about 20 miles) which puts you on US 1.
From there you have about 120 miles to Bluewater.
I find this route to be as fast as the other ways and more pleasant, except for the sometimes stop and go on SR 997 due to agricultural equipment on the road. No tolls either .
