Boondock around Cleveland

Hello everyone,

I will be passing by Cleveland,OH and would like to spend one night boondocking. Does anyone have a safe suggestion for a place around the Cleveland area.

Thanks in advance,

Stuart

  • There's also no boondocking (and very minimal camping) in Cuyahoga Valley NP. It's really just parking lots.
  • Not all plazas have them one that does is around Portage before Cleveland and the other is in Amherst about 30 miles after Cleveland. There is a $20 fee for a spot there with hookups. On the west side there are a few Walmarts one in North Olmsted then Avon and finally in Elyria. all are open 24 hours and in nice areas. If you are on I-90 there is a rest area but I don't think they allow overnight stays and I don't think I would stay there anyway.
Outside of the parking lot boondocking I don't know of any true boondocking place. There is a lot of farm land west of Cleveland heading south of the Ohio Turnpike but all private land.
  • Thanks beemerphile1,

That is good to know about the service plazas. I was needing just an overnight stay, not real boondocking.

  • Cleveland is a huge metropolitan area, there definitely are no boondocks within 50 miles of Cleveland.

If you are talking about overnighting in a parking lot there are a large number of them.

Some of the Ohio turnpike service plazas have electric hookups for RVs. You can overnight without hookups in any of them.
