Boondocking in Big Bend National Park, TX

Here is an excerpt from my new blog article on boondocking in Big Bend National Park in Texas:

Big Bend is a large park with no fewer than five Visitor Centers. Panther Junction Visitor Center is also the park HQ. It is centrally located in the park. The turnoff to Hannold Draw is about 4.9 miles north of Panther Junction by my odometer. The turnoff is completely unmarked. A ranger told me it had to do with preventing “campsite jumping” which I took to mean unlawful occupation of the campsite by people without permits. Why then they would mark other turnoffs to primitive sites with a sign such as Paint Gap is unclear to me.

If you care to read the full article please find it here. You'll also find other boondocking and campground reports, great photography and photo tips, interviews with people I've met and more. It's all free. Look for the Follow Russ text entry field in which to enter your email address if you want free email notifications when I make new posts.

  • Just left there 2 days ago. We will be going back. Sitting in Guadalupe Mountain National Park as I write this.
