Boondocking near Lake Havasu City AZ

We are looking for boondocking - dry camping areas near Lake Havasu City, AZ.
The commercial sites on the lake pretty, and pretty expensive. Anything on the river edge?

  • We have stayed at the area just north of the airport- I believe it is called Craggy Wash. It worked ok for us. Not much for view but it is protected from the wind. Some good hiking there but no tv and pretty limited cell service- as others have mentioned. Turn at the immediate north end of the runway and follow back in about 1/2 a mile.
  • Last year I stayed at the BLM site 5 miles north of town. I liked the site, but not good for ATT cell, Verizon was OK. Great camp host, Mark was his name.

Check out Avi Casino. It is in the area and very quiet and nice (well, from what we seen). Great river frontage activities!!!
    Thats not exactly boondocking.
Ok, it's dry camping in the dirt parking lot.

  • there are 2 areas that we have used, the first is just coming into town before you get to the airfield, its a blm camp, its on the left side, same as the airfield. The other which is our favorite is about 15 miles south of town, before Parker Dam, called the 'STEPS' just dry camping not blm on the left, its an area they worked from while building the dam. Also on the way south from town you will see lots of area that people are camping, but a lot of ATVs in that area.......
  • All the boondocking I'm familiar with in the havasu area is east of 95.

There are two nice BLM campground on the west side of the river. Might be of some interst to you.

    Crossroads and Empire Landing.
