Boondocking near Memphis?

Can anyone recommend a good place for an overnight stop near Memphis? Just need a place to pull off the road, sleep and get right back on the road in the morning. Maybe grab a bite to eat.
  • My inlaws live in Memphis Tenn. I hate going there, as we just don't feel safe. I would put a number of miles between you and Memphis before you stop for the night. I prefer campgrounds.
  • Another vote for not staying in Memphis, ez daze is nice and is right behind a large Rv dealer in Southaven ms. You also have yogi bear Rv park which is the nicest in the area. Not aware of any true boondocking places. If doing Walmart near Memphis drive the extra 20 minutes to Hernando Ms, not sure if it's allowed there but it's a safe location.
  • Tom Sawyer RV Park in West Memphis is right on the Miss. River and has some low cost sites off river. Neat park.
  • Pretty scary place down there - I would spent the $40 to be safe and check in where I did

  • Be VERY careful where you pick to stay in Memphis. And stay way away from West Memphis.

Use this to give you somewhat of an idea what the area is like where you do decide to stay. And stay safe. IMHO I would push on a few miles more and not boondock anywhere in Memphis.

Not an end all be all link for where to stay safely but it sure will let you know where NOT to stay!

  • Just find a Walmart, Pilot or Cracker Barrel and ask if they allow over night parking. Most are friendly but local ordinance may prohibit it. My advice is to stay outside of Memphis/West Memphis because it can be a dangerous place after dark. Lots of homeless and druggies.
