I should have anticipated these questions:
Ajo and Why are about 40 miles south of Gila Bend, Arizona, which is along I-8 about midway between Yuma and Tucson (on I-10).
Ajo you could call a really nice tiny village. Why is more of a dot on the map 10 miles south.
South of Why 4 miles is the entrance to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument right on the Border with Mexico which is 20 miles away.
Most RVers knowing about Ajo and Why probably do so because they have camped in Organ Pipe.
But through Organ Pipe and 60 miles south of the Border is the Snowbird haven of Puerto Penasco on the Gulf of California. Virtually everybody up here calls it "Rocky Point." Rumor has it there are a couple of pretty good paint shops down there willing to work with you.
About the only other thing to note is that from Why you can take route 86 over to Tucson. It's about 120 miles. The road is somewhat narrow and not having a lot of shoulder - but then it's also lightly traveled. And you go right past Old Tucson as you near that city.
OOOPs: it's spelled Why. Corrections made!
