I agree the harborfreight generators are louder than some. However this poster appears to be boondocking which by definition is away from others. I think if run for a minimal amount of time during the day to charge baterries it would not be to disturbing. I think this would leave him better prepared for unexpected happenings than trying to cheat off his truck battery or going solar.
To be alone in the middle of no where unprepared can be frightening. My rig has a on board Onan genset but I carry a harborfreight 1000 watt just in case. I would rather the OP be over prepared than under.
Keeps the spouse happier as well if a problem is encountered and is easy to deal with.
