Years ago when I was managing the AMC/Jeep Parts Division office in Chicago my regional manager, who hailed from Texas could not understand why there was no real off-road culture in Illinois.
"Just look at all this open land, just drive out there and go four wheeling!" he would say.
I would reply, "that's fine if you want to stare down an angry farmer with a shotgun!"
It is a regional thing, lots of boon docking on BLM land in Arizona or Texas, not so much in Illinois or East of the Big Muddy.
