Minnesota still has free camping at a lot of state forests and National forests. Most if not all of the free campsites have no garbage service, and a lot of them have no potable water supply. But they do have fire rings, picnic tables, and toilets of some description. I do most of my camping in these places, as I am cheap and like the solitude when camping that many of these places give. One favorite is in the Superior National Forest just a short distance from the BWCAW, down a 3/8 mile two rut path from the "main" dirt road, single site, no water or garbage, on a tiny lake which is a wide spot in the river. Eagles, beaver, moose, fox, deer have all been spotted in or from this campsite. Sunsets over the pond. Awesome.
