FYI, 3 people have been killed by mountain lions since 2001, and 37 people have been killed by black or brown bears since 2000. The lion attacks occured in Alaska, California, and New Mexico. Most of the bear attacks occured in Canada, British Columbia, or Alaska, but several were in Montana and Wyoming in the parks. Google lion or bear attacks, Wikipedia has a long listing of both. Just recently in my neck of the woods we had a girl mauled by a mountain lion on a hiking trail with several people with her. Also, not that many years ago, a 19 year old girl was killed by coyotes while hiking in a park in Canada with people all around. Not saying to fret about it, just be aware of it, it can happen, so be prepared in your own way and blame no one but yourself for the outcome.
