The Boone KOA is 5 miles from downtown Boone. About a 12 minute drive. Same for Flintrock and Honey Bear. Not far at all.
We have only stayed at the KOA (twice)I would recommend staying in rows C-G...H is ok, but when you get over to I, the sites get very narrow and the road to campsite can be washed out some. The first time we stayed in row I with the 35' TT we had. It was not a good place to be. I want to say it was site I6 or I7. The second time we stayed, it was around the G/H 4 area. Much better. When I called them to make the reservation, I asked them specifically not to be put in the I section and explained my concerns. They were very good about it. When I got there to check in, I walked down to the spot (2nd stay) first to see how it was. And it was ok. You mentioned going in July. KOA does have a pool, if that matters. I didn't see it mention it on the other two campground websites. The KOA also offers some kid activities as well. But of course, more than likely a little higher priced than the other two. WE will have to give the other 2 a try out this year for a weekend.
At Honey Bear. C 1- 2 - 3 and 4 are the best sites. However D4 - 3- 2 - 1 are built for Motorhomes.
