If you can get by with just electric sites, we loved Golden Gate State Park just North of Golden CO. Very scenic at 9000 ft elevation, with great bath houses and laundry facilities. I remember paying an annual pass fee as well but we stayed in several state parks that year in Colorado. We made the mistake of following the directions on the website which was a white knuckle experience. You would want to approach from the West entrance, rt 119 off I-70 to rt 72

Golden Gate Canyon SP is a wonderful place to stay. Facilities are always clean and the staff very helpful. And you do NOT want to go in from the east side off CO 72. West side is much better. To get there, go through Denver on I-70 toward Golden and take the US 6 exit in Golden. Follow the signs for US 6 until it intersects with CO 119. Take that up to Black Hawk and go past Black Hawk for several miles to Gap Road/County Rd 2. That will take you right to Reverend's Ridge Campground, which is not far off CO 119.
Housing in Boulder is obscene. In Boulder city, the average house price has topped $1million; in Boulder County, $700K+. Hence no RV parks or CGs with amenities. There ARE some USFS CGs with no hookups between Nederland and Black Hawk, as well as north between Nederland and Estes Park. They are on the edge of the Indian Peaks Wilderness area and definitely worth considering if you get by without amenities.
Not to disagree - as Golden Gate State Park is a great place to go - BUT - it is every bit of an Hour Plus to Boulder.
So keep that in Mind,
