This is the only State Park campground near Boulder that is actually in the mountains. The others, like St. Vrain, Boyd Lake, Chatfield, and Cherry Creek, are on the plains. Which one you select really depends on whether you want to be in the mountains and whether you are staying long enough that you must have a FHU site (Golden Gate SP has none, just electric).

If you have a toad, you can get to Boulder by going north from the campground to CO 72 (Coal Creek Canyon) and then CO 93 to Boulder. It is shorter and faster than going back to CO 119 or down to Golden on Golden Gate Canyon Road to get to 93.
