Bristol/KOA Blountville TN
I do not post very often and I have never posted a negative review about any campground simply because I have never had a bad stay at any campground and I have been doing this for over 20 years. I guess that steak has been broken by – of all campgrounds – a KOA branded campground. The Bristol/Kingsport KOA Holiday in Blountsville, TN has to be the worst KOA in the entire KOA family to deal with if you have a problem. I had scheduled a rally there and due to unforeseen circumstances I had to cancel the rally about 11 days before the scheduled event. When making the reservation they indicated they required a full payment up front and the refund policy was cancellations before 7 days of stay will be fully refunded less a $20 fee which was also stated on the receipt. I had no problem with this policy so I made the reservations. Unfortunately, life happens and there were only 4 or 5 attendees making reservations so I decided to cancel the rally. I told all attendees and called the campground to cancel the rally. I got my full refund less $20 so all was well. All attendees but 1 got a full refund except for the $20. That one attendee was charged for a days reservation with the remaining deposit being refunded. I called on behalf of the attendee impacted and talked to the manager about their policy and she was not aware of what the policy was and indicated she need to research it and would call me back. I waited till next day I did not get a call so I called the office and was able to talk to the owner who indicated the manager was out that day and she would touch base with her and call me back. I waited over the weekend and still no call back so I called again and talked to the manager. Before I had anything to say beyond may I speak to the manager who answered the phone she started listing her reasons for the reservation charge and the business she turned away due to the reservations and the list went on. I thought it interesting that handling reservations was such a challenge for her. I tried to stop her several times to discuss her first item on the list but she continued taking and did finally stop to tell me that if I interrupted her again the call was over and she would hang up. Kind of doctoral but ok I waited till she was done and started asking questions about why the policy she now quoted was different from the policy quoted when I made the reservations. She interrupted me which I found ironic and indicated her decision was made and she was done discussing this. She called me an ass, told me to never call back or make a reservation at her campground and promptly hung up. I did call KOA Corp and they apologized a bunch and indicated this was a privately own KOA to which I pointed out I did not care about that. I picked that campground because is was a KOA branded campground. I also pointed out that most campers stay there because it is a KOA branded property and was this manager and owner representative of KOA Corp values. She again apologized and said KOA would take action. Not sure what that action is but stay at this KOA at your own peril. If you have no issues it will most likely be fine but if you have a problem you have been warned. We all have had to deal with doctoral personality types like the KOA manager and it is never pleasant so we simply deal with someone else if we can. My recommendation is to go to another KOA – any other KOA.
