Hey Fellow Travelers, For those of you who have visited Bryce Canyon National Park I have some questions regarding my upcoming visit in August with our 45' motor home. I am deciding between 2 campgrounds; one is in Panguitch, The Hitch-N-Post Campground (24 miles from the entrance to Bryce N.P.) one right about a mile from the entrance to Bryce N.P. (Ruby's Inn Campground and RV Park). There is a significant price difference between these 2 campgrounds Ruby's is about $20.00/night more expensive. I would pay the higher price if there is a significant benefit to staying a mile from the entrance. We usually don't mind driving 24 miles in our car to get to a destination. Once arriving at the entrance to the park how close is it to hiking trails? What about the visitor center? Will I need to take a shuttle? Is there ample parking inside the park?Any information you can share with me would be very helpful.Thanks in advance.Leslie

I am sitting a Ruby's right now - first the two campgrounds are 10.95 per night difference and Ruby's is a bargain at 42.95 for full hookups.The campground is spacious, has swimming pool and all kinds of activities (chuck wagons, rodeo etc.)shops and food venues within walking distance I can not imagine that a campground 24 miles away could stack up to his one. The shuttles to the park pick up right in front of the campground office

Ruby's is within walking distance of some tourist traps just outside of Bryce.Walking distance to shuttle. Bryce shuttle

I have stayed at both locations a few times, including last July and we were there for new years, well in Duck Creek. The Hitch-N-Post Campground is ok, it but really a fisherman's place and we happen to like it ... Ruby's BLAH......We will also stay at the KOA in Cedar City or at Fish Lake Resort and deal with the drive. It is a very nice drive too. Fish Lake is a very nice campground, over looks the lake, can handle the largest RV's and is relaxing. But it is two hours to Bryce... We enjoy Bryce Canyon, the hikes and the scenery. We like to ride our bikes or hike to the water falls.But I doubt that I would ever camp at Ruby's again as, we have given it more then one chanse and it always fails..... Maybe it has changed but it was loud with motorcycles, quads, tour bus loads of rude people starting with the bus driver. They park and block everybody and the people in Ruby's could care less. If you stay at the Cedar City KOA, Duck Creek or The Hitch-N-Post Campground you can hit Brian's Head, Duck Creek, short drive to Cedar Breaks and Zion.JMHO

I agree with cornfed, we've stayed at both and won't stay at Ruby's again. To many buses, rude people etc. for me. Not much parking inside the park itself for big rigs. Beautiful place though. Beside I like the little town atmosphere you get in Panguitch.Dave

We stayed at the KOA in Cannonville. Closer than Panguitch and is pretty close to Kodachrome.

We stayed at Ruby's when we went. It rained a lot while we were there and our spot was dirt, so it was muddy. That was the "bad" part. The "good" was that we walked to the shuttle pickup, visitor center, and trails.

The KOA at Cannonville worked great for us. Since you will be taking the Park Shuttle--pick a nice campground and enjoy it all. Check out the Star Parties at night--Bryce is one of the darkest places in the continental US. The Ranger led party with telescope viewing is a don't miss.

We stayed at Ruby's this past summer. Our site was wooded and had full hookups. It was July and it was crowded, but we didn't care because we spent all our time in the national park. We had no trouble parking in the national park itself, but we came early and stayed late. We'll stay there again if we go back because it has full hookups and it's really close to Bryce. The touristy stuff doesn't bother me because I just ignore it.

They told be yesterday in Ruby's office that they now have cable in the back sites
