Campground and activities between Redwoods and Lake Tahoe

Looking suggestions for zip lines, waterfalls, or other fun activities for parents with teenagers in Northern California (between Redwoods and Lake Tahoe). Campground suggestions for 32 ft trailer would be appreciated too! We'll only be spending a day or two in June - these mid-westerners are on the move!

  • Way too many things to see and do...you'll need to narrow down your itinerary a bit.

    1. Yosemite and Gold Country...Hwy 49.. Stay at Jackson Rancheria, the kids will love the pool, activities and two hot tubs. Reach out and touch the Milky Way at night. Pretty place..try for Space 57. Visit the Marshall Gold Discovery site in Coloma. Whitewater raft on the American River. Stay at Ponderosa RV Park. Camp steps from the river. Rafters will pick you up at the resort.

    2. Lake Tahoe - buy lunch in the village and take the ski lift up to Heavenly Valley. You can stop halfway and enjoy lunch while looking over the lake. Continue to the top and visit the lodge. The ski runs are groomed for easy hiking. From the top you overlook California on one side and Nevada on the other. Go into Nevada and stay at Zephyr Cove. Swim in the lake - it's the clearest in the U.S.

    3. Reno - Grand Sierra RV Resort - you won't be sorry and neither will the teens. Lots for them there and the pool is a tropical paradise.

    4. San Francisco - Golden Gate bridge, Pier 57, Alcatraz, crookedest street in the world, cable cars. Stay at SF RV Resort in Pacifica. Bus picks you up in front of the resort to wherever you want to go in SF. Watch the whales from your site overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Pool/Spa..walk on the beach, watch the hang gliders come into your campsite.

    5. Leave SF and take Hwy 1 north. Stop at all the lighthouses along the coast. For a treat, they can actually stay overnight in one of the caretakers houses for a small fee.

    6. Fort Bragg - take the Skunk Train

    7. Redwoods - at Leggett, go through the drive thru tree. Stay at Ancient Redwoods RV Park right on the Avenue of the Giants. Lots of hiking/biking trails through the huge redwoods.

This is but a smattering of things to see and do..pics are available if you need them....enjoy...Dennis
