Campground around Winter Park, FL

We just need something Clean and hopefully easy in and out in the middle of February, while visiting with our daughter, son-in-law and 5 grandchildren.

Does anyone have any experience with Wekiva Falls RV Resort in Sorrento, FL? or Orange City RV Resort in Orange City, FL? or Twelve Oaks RV Resort in Sanford, FL?

Any other suggestions around that area would be appreciated... Thanks for the help...

  • I want to thank each and everyone of you for your comments and suggestions! I am taking the suggestions and checking them out... and taking all of your comments w/ regard to the campgrounds I have thrown out there in serious consideration. I appreciate all of the help and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It has been 5 years since I've taken the 5th Wheel with us to visit with my Florida family, mainly because my daughter has plenty of room to put us up at their house... however I hate to disrupt their daily lives by staying there 2 or 3 weeks... everyone needs their space, once in a while... That is why I am thinking along the lines of pulling the 5th Wheel to Florida again.

Again, thanks for your help, and please keep your suggestions and comments coming...

When visiting in that area I always use Stage Stop on 50 in Winter Garden. Clean and reasonable, easy in/out and the cheapest fuel is in that area. Nothing fancy but you do not need reservations even in the winter. Has a pool but not much else for the grand children if they come to the RV. If you need 50 amps it helps to have an adapter from two 30s to one 50. Click on "Video tour" for a drone view of the CG.

That cg is a gooder with one caveat: the travel time to Winter Park is nearly an hour because of all the traffic lights on SR50.

  • Wekiwa Springs State Park is close. Very nice state park - one loop has full hookups.
  • Orange City RV Resort is ok. We stayed a month or so. Paved, easy access to I 4.

Wekiva Falls is quirky. Beautiful property, huge, has a water feature. Close to I4.

Weird spaces, might need an ext cord. It's an old park that used to be in poor shape with trashy permanent bottom feeders.

Bought 5-7!years ago, new utilities, new roads, trying to upgrade pads but many crappy ones left or none.

Attracts smoking rednecks in the summer. OK in the winter.
  • How much time will you be spending in your RV? If you'll be visiting mostly with family at their house, I'd go with the closest, in this case, Wekiva Falls in Sanford, FL. You'll only be about 35 minutes from Winter Park if you take the Central Florida Greeneway.

Umatilla and Orange City are both about an hour's drive in heavy traffic to and from Winter Park which is located in the middle of the Orlando metroplex. It's worth it if family will spend most of the time at the campground and you want an upscale resort experience. If you only want a crash pad at night, go with a Sanford or even an Apopka campground.
  • Although Wekiva has good reviews, it sucks. I spent 4 winters there and would not drive the 1 mile from the highway to the campground. It is NOT an RV Resort.

Twelve Oaks has been losing it's appeal the last couple of years. Close to 20 residents moved out of each campground last year and have found better accommodations nearby.

Check out Olde Mill Stream in Umatilla or Orange Blossom KOA in Apopka.
