- Hiking_HunterExplorerExit 289 or 284 (either will work) - Rickwood Caverns State Park. Follow the brown signs to the campground. About 17 miles North of Birmingham. Small campground is about 2 miles off the interstate, fine for a one-nighter. Also if you make it through BHam, there is Oak Mountain State Park South of town, but further off the interstate and more crowded. Also some sites are very poor in the old loop.
There are no private campgrounds in Birmingham that I would recommend.
In MOntgomery area - Gunter Hill COE park - pretty far off the interstate, but an excellent campground - get in the new loop. I would estimate 15-18 miles off the interstate.
