Hamilton-Branch State Park is about 30 minutes away (in South Carolina). Stayed there one January, and there were only two other sites of the 200 being used. All sites are on lake. According to reviews, it can get kind of hectic when the weather is warm (boat ramp in park). Bring plenty of water hoses - spigot on wrong side of site.
We live in the area and really like Hamilton Branch, as well. There are no sewer hook-ups, though - but a dump station. If you're active or retired military or DOD, Pointes West Army Recreation Area on the Georgia side of the lake is very nice, too (and quite affordable if you're eligible). Most of the nice place to camp are around the lake.
