I know of no waterfront campgrounds in Southern New Jersey - unless you consider being on a small lake waterfront. There are no campgrounds within walking distance of a saltwater beach that I know of - all the campgrounds are on the mainland, 3 - 5 miles from the barrier islands. There may be one or two near Cape May that are within a bike ride of a beach. Check the link I previously posted.
That being said, there are tons of campgrounds offering a full palate of features and activities. Most have wooded sites, and many have private lakes as well as pools, etc.
If you are looking for campgrounds on the beach like Assateague Island, the Outer Banks, or Myrtle Beach, they just do not exist - real estate is just too dear!
